LASIK Surgery

LASIK eye surgery is a type of laser eye surgery that reshapes your cornea to correct your vision. Short for laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis, LASIK is used for refractive errors, which occur when the shape of your cornea doesn’t allow for light to focus directly on the retina. These errors may be categorized as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism.

Is LASIK Right for You?

Lasik is a safe, effective procedure that is suitable for most patients over the age of 18. When you see our doctors for a LASIK surgery consultation, he will go over your medical history, eye health history, and evaluate your current eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions to ensure that they have been stable for at least two years.

You may not be a candidate for LASIK surgery if any of the following apply to you:

👁 Uncontrolled diabetes

👁 Glaucoma

👁 Cataracts

👁 Active eye infection or recent injury

👁 Thin corneas

👁 Severe dry eyes

👁 Severe refractive errors

What to Expect During LASIK Surgery

Prior to LASIK surgery, the ophthalmologist will closely examine the shape of your cornea and take measurements of your eye. This allows him to map your cornea and determine the precise areas that need to be reshaped.

Your eyes will be numbed, then a laser light makes adjustments so the ophthalmologist can access the corneal curvature and thickness to shape it in a way that eliminates refractive errors. You may feel pressure during this time, but not pain. Surgery typically takes 15 minutes for both eyes. There are no sutures involved, as your eye will heal the incision on its ow
